Character Description
Willy Wonka Principle character man, sings Pure Imagination, Golden Age of Chocolate, In This Room Here, There’s No Knowing. Vocal range: Low A to high F. Appears in Act I & II. Quick witted, quirky, a bit “dangerous”, tender-hearted, humorous.
Charlie Bucket Principle character boy, sings The Candy Man, Think Positive, I’ve Got A Golden Ticket, Flying, Burping Song. Vocal range: Low B flat to high F#. Hopeful, loving, focused, respectful, wonderful imagination. Helpful to be able to “burp” on command.
Augustus Gloop Principle character boy, sings I Eat More! Vocal range: Low B to high G. He will wear a padded suit if needed. Uses a German accent to speak and sing. Very hungry!
Veruca Salt Principle character girl, sings I Want It Now! Vocal range: Middle C to high E flat. Sassy & spoiled, bad temper.
Violet Beauregarde Principle character girl, sings Chew It. Vocal range: Low A to high E. Sassy, forceful, rude. Southern accent. Should be able to blow a bubble with gum on demand and control it.
Mike Teavee Principle character boy, sings I See It All On TV. Vocal range: Low G to high G. Technologically savvy, sarcastic, distractible
Grandpa Joe Principle character man, sings Cheer up Charlie, Flying, Burping Song. Vocal range: Low B flat to high E flat. Spunky elderly man, hopeful. Helpful to be able to “burp” on command. Ability to sing harmony.
Phineous Trout Featured character man. Vocal range: Low B to C, ability to sing harmony. Reporter present throughout Act I and beginning of Act II to interview each of the children when they find their Golden Tickets. Dry sense of humor, clever.
Mr. Bucket Featured character man, sings Think Positive, Cheer Up Charlie. Vocal range: Low B to high E flat, ability to sing harmony. Has a twitch in his right hand from working in a toothpaste factory screwing on lids.
Mrs. Bucket Featured character woman, sings Cheer Up Charlie. Vocal range: Low B flat to high D flat, ability to sing harmony. Strong, tender-hearted, really good at making cabbage soup.
Grandma Josephine Featured character woman. Vocal range: Middle C to E flat. Quick-witted, cheerful elderly20woman. Loves Nut-a-riffic bars!
Grandma Georgina Featured character woman. Vocal range: Middle C to E flat. Exasperated with Grandpa George because he is hard of hearing. Ability to holler at him in a controlled way. Funny elderly woman.
Grandpa George Featured character man. “Hard of hearing” elderly man brings humor and crazy conversation to the ho use, good sense of comedic timing.
Mrs. Gloop Featured character woman, sings I Eat More! Vocal range: Low B to high E. She may wear a padded suit if needed. Uses a German accent to speak and sing.
Mr. Salt Featured character man. Vocal range: Low C to A. Very wealthy, indulgent, arrogant.
Ms. Teavee Featured character woman, sings I See It All On TV. Vocal range: Low B to high F. Technologically savvy, permissive
Mrs. Beauregarde Featured character woman. Vocal range: Middle C to G. Southern accent. Dresses like her daughter, smiles a lot even as her daughter is extremely rude to her.
Oompa-Loompas Featured boys and girls, men, women preferably shorter in stature. Sing Golden Age of Chocolate (Act I), several Oompa-Loompa songs. Vocal range: Low B flat to treble D. Flexibility, tumbling and/or dance experience a plus. Ability to sing harmony helpful. Must be focused & responsible.
Candy Man Man, sings The Candy Man. Vocal range: Low A to D. Loving and tender-hearted toward the kids in Charlie’s town. “Magical” and generous.
James Charlie’s friend. Solo in The Candy Man. Vocal range: A to A.
Matilda Charlie’s friend. Solo in The Candy Man. Vocal range: B to B.
Chorus of Cooks Workers in The Gloop household. Featured in I Eat More! Will use a German accent.
Kids’ Ensemble Sing The Candy Man. Must like lollipops.
Reporting Team Camera people & reporters that appear with Phineous Trout as each child finds their Golden Ticket.
